Winter Bucket List 2019

I am a Bucket List person. I make one for myself every season of activities to do and places to go. I even made a Bucket List last January of new restaurants for us to try. I didn’t post about it but it took us a year and we finally checked off each one!

Every few weeks Rick and I sit down with a calendar and write down all of our upcoming social events and plans. Then we talk about what we want to do, find time to fit in what we can, leaving some open space for spontaneous plans. We’ve found that if we talk about things, they probably won’t happen. We have to be proactive and plan it out to make it happen.

Last January, I shared my 2018 Winter Bucket List and updated it to include what I was able to do. You can read that post here.

A few years ago I found a list of 50 ways to make the most of winter on Pinterest. I am a list and goal person so I was all about it! It inspired me to embrace winter and what it has to offer instead of wishing it away. Each year I use it as a reference to make my own.

Here is my list! I’ve included some things I didn’t get to do last year that are still on my list and some things I’ve already checked off.  The first three are my “big” things. You will find the rest of my list are simple things that are free or cheap. There are so many things to do in the winter that don’t cost a lot of money.

  • Go to Primland Resort for a weekend getaway
  • Go to a UVA Basketball game
  • Take the boys snow tubing at Wintergreen
  • Try a new restaurant-Finally went to Indian Fields, and to Tobacco Company for their reopening.
  • Go out with friends: This one is a given and we’ve already had two fun nights with friends this year.
  • Have a game night (we have done this at a friend’s house and it one of the funnest nights of winter!)
  • Have a weekend getaway in the Outer Banks or The Bay-We already went to The Bay, would still like to try to go Nags Head or back to The Bay House.
  • Go to the Virginia Beach Boat Show
  • Work on shooting clay targets (I’ve shot them before but have never hit one, so that’s my goal)
  • Learn to knit a blanket
  • Have a movie night
  • Binge watch tv shows
  • Go bowling
  • Spend a cozy day at home enjoying the simple things (sitting by the fire, hot chocolate, bake cookies, etc)-Have done this already a couple of times. Love cozy days!

Here are a couple of activities we already have planned that are standard and happen every year, but will list them anyway to give you some more ideas.

  • Go to an Oyster Roast (or 2)
  • Go to a Daytona 500 party-Ok, we are NASCAR fans but you could do this for any sport. Rick and his buddy have been getting together to watch Daytona for years and years. And another friend wants to have a Daytona party also.

Want to make a list of your own? Here are some other ideas I’ve done in the past:

  • Visit a museum or local tourist attraction you’ve never been.
  • Go to the movies
  • Have a spa day
  • Try a new recipe
  • Take a trip somewhere warm
  • Host or attend a Super Bowl Party
  • Host a dinner party for friends
  • Go ice skating
  • Weekend trip to Greatwolf Lodge (my kids loved this when they were little)
  • Indoor Laser Tag/Arcade

Are you making a winter bucket list? Here is the list from Pinterest I mentioned. I’d love to hear if you do or if you have any other ideas! Happy Winter!
